Beware of Modern Chinese Bone Skulls Added to Historic Rosaries on Ebay
I am starting to see a rash of lovely old historic rosaries with modern Chinese bone skull beads attached. If you are purchasing an antique rosary and want it to be authentic and original, look closely at the skull attached. Many antique rosaries used by nuns did have a skull attached as a reminder of man's mortality, these can be small or large but are usually incorporated right into the chain of the rosary, not hanging along the side of the crucifix.
I am also seeing modern Chinese skull beads sold as antique beads from rosaries. They are not, they are from modern Buddhist prayer malas. Do a search on eBay for "skull mala" and you will see the type of beads I am referring to.
I believe that there is nothing at all wrong with attaching one of these skull beads to your rosary, but please don't sell them as historic or antique because they are not.
Please check my website, The Sacred Bead, for authentic antique rosaries that have not been altered in any way, vintage rosaries and my own heirloom handmade designer rosaries.
If you read my blog or look at my website you will find rosaries that I have created using modern skull beads, these are modern rosaries and there is no attempt to claim that they are old beads.
